My project had its last National Steering Committee Meeting on Friday. The date had been set mid-August. JK, the responsible programme administrator for EU funding in the Do/Mo Planning and his side kick flew in on Thursday afternoon.
When I picked him and sidekick up at the airport, a number of her Wontoks was waiting. Instead of going to the office, I had to drive them to Madang Center first. She is from Madang and probably uses the opportunity for a free ticket home.
Then the two needed to go to their hotel, the only one I could find, after their office called me in desperation the day before, because they had realised that 2 days before departure all hotels are booked out. HELLOOOO???? The date was clear 2.5 months ago!!
The sidekick needed to go back to town to meet her Wontoks, clearly she was not here to work or had any intentions to stay at the hotel she was booked in. To be on the safe side she had left her luggage with her Wontoks and did not bring anything to the hotel.
Meanwhile JK got hungry and I drove him back to a place near his hotel. I went back to the office then, just having wasted 2 hours.
Friday morning at 6.30h JK calls me to announce that he is on his way to the office and when I would arrive because he needed to check his email. I get up, get ready and arrive at the office at 7.15h. As it turns out, he did not bring his laptop. And non of our office computers, except for mine, are connected to the internet. As it turns out JK doesn't even know the web page for the webmail! He finds it out during the next hours but can still not log-in.
At 10.00h I rush to the airport to pick up CE, the EU representative. We have a meeting from 10.30h-15.30h and the NDoE reps are thirsty!! We agree to meet at 18h in the staff mess.
JK moved into the Lodge, which I organised for him as he did not like his other hotel. While checking in he realises that he cant pay for the hotel. Mrs. C, the Lodge owner, lets him have a room while I guarantee that he pays Monday, when back in PoM.
JK and I arrive at the staff mess at 18.30h and we are the only ones. I call a NDoE rep and he tells me they are on their way, JK does not believe it. We wait, then wait in the car outside the university when a drunk comes and asks JK, who was sitting in my car, for money, cigarettes, anything, which JK declines. The unhappy drunk went off, tells his friends and JK just yells at me 'DRIVEE, DRIVE, DRIVE' and then we hear a big BANGGGGG, while I speed off!!!! I stop again at the Country Club and we see that the passenger door has a hole, probably from a big stone. Good thing they were weakened by alcohol and did not hit the glass 30 cm higher.
We joined friends of mine there, JK ate but never paid and I had to drive him back to the Lodge after he had enough.
Saturday the accountant & I spent in the office, JK must have taken the day off, he called mid-day to inform me that he is not in his hotel and to drop the documents we prepare for him off at the Lodge.
Exhausted, I stay the evening home and see at 22.30h that I have a message on my phone that JK & sidekick are leaving Sunday morning at 7.30h, want to check in at 6.30h and needed a ride to the airport at 6h. I reply that the Lodge, where he stays, is meeting every flight with a bus, leaving at the requested time. At 2.30h, when I needed to go to the bathroom, I see another message saying: YOU DROP ME OFF AT 6!
Well then, thank you for the friendly request!
I set the alarm and am in the parking lot of the Lodge on Sunday morning at 5.45h. When the Lodge bus leaves for the airport at 6.20h and there was still no sign of JK, I send him a message informing him that I have been waiting for half an hour now and enquiring if he had changed his mind? Probably that woke him up, he called and was there at 6.25h.
In the car to the airport he informs me that he never checked out and I should do that for him. WHHHAATTT???? He leaves the key in the car. At 6.45h I'm back at home.
1. Don't call me at 6.30h in the morning!
2. If you eat in a restaurant, pay your bill!
3. If there is a hotel shuttle, take it. Don't call me, I'm not a driver and certainly not at 5.45h on a Sunday morning, unless you are family!
4. Have the decency and call when you are late. It is ridiculous to ask someone to meet you at 6 am or before (on a Sunday) and not to show up!
5. Settle your hotel bill, don't just walk/drive off and hand the key to someone and tell them to check you out
6. Don't send a SMS to the person who dropped you off at the airport which says: "I was 1 hour early". That just shows how pathetic you are and how unable to even plan your arrival at the airport
